A loanword is a word that a language takes directly from another language. English has ‘loaned’ the words Zeppelin and Zeitgeist from German for example. German borrows a few words from English too. One of them happens to be ‘shitstorm.’ A jury of German academics named the word “Shitstorm” as the best English loanword for 2011.
